PURPOSE:To prevent clogging trouble caused by scattering of unseparated polymer and to produce the titled polyethylene stably in a long period, by reacting ethylene with an alpha-olefin under a specific condition and subjecting the reaction mixture to separating process under a specific condition after the reaction is over. CONSTITUTION:In obtaining a polyethylene having 0.1-100g/10min melt flow index and 0.85-0.91g/cm<3> density by polymerizing ethylene with one or more 4-8C alpha-olefins at >=200kg/cm<2> at >=125 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst obtained by combining (A) a solid composition obtained by blending a Mg halide (e.g. MgCl2, MgF2, etc.) with titanium trichloride, an electron donor compound (e.g. ethyl acetate, etc.) and a halogen-containing compound of an element of group IVa of the periodic table and grinding the blend with (B) a halogen-containing organoaluminum compound, the ratio of the alpha-olefin in the mixture is 40-90mol% and the reaction product is subjected to separation process at 0.5-300kg/cm<2> at 125-225 deg.C after the reaction is over.
