The invention provides the following method in order, in the case of strain gauges mounted on measuring members, to be able reliably to detect as early as in the initial stage of the measurement process errors that are to be ascribed to the detachment of the strain gauges or to other functional disturbances of the strain gauges: The section of the measuring member provided for measurement of mechanical deformations is firstly subjected to a torque, tensile or compressive load. In this state of the respective preloading, the strain gauges of a first measuring bridge are mounted fixed on the deformation section of the measuring member, and after that the measuring member is unloaded again and subjected anew to a similar load of the same size working in the opposite direction. In this state of loading, the measuring member is fitted with the strain gauges of a second measuring bridge, and subsequently unloaded again (Fig. 1).
