NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R<1> is H, lower alkyl, phenyl-lower- alkyl, lower alkylcarbonyl; R<2> is lower alkyl, phenyl substituted with lower alkyl; R<3> is alkyl, phenyl-lower-alkyl, carboxy-lower-alkyl). EXAMPLE:2-Amino-4-methoxy-5-phenylthiophenol hydrochloride. USE:It is used as an anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antirheumatic, analgesic, diuretic, antithrombotic, or hypotensor. It has the action to block or control the biosynthesis of prostaglandins and leucotrienes. PREPARATION:A compound of formula II (R<4> is lower alkyl) is reduced with an agent such as sodium hydrosulfite in a solvent such as ether, and, when needed, combined with aqueous ammonia to give the compound of formula I.
