PURPOSE:To avoid the interruption of a computer system by requiring no need for reformation of a swapping area despite the generation of fragmentation together with decrease of the input/output frequency and at the same time providing the control information on the next swapping unit to a swapping area. CONSTITUTION:A process dividing means 4a contained in a swapping controller 4A divides a process A, for example, in a main memory 1 into the swapping units corresponding to the idle swapping areas 2a-2c in case the fragmentation is produced within a secondary memory device 2. A control information storing means 4b provided into the controller 4A is operated so as to obtain the control information on the next swapping unit when those divided swapping units are written to the corresponding areas 2a-2c respectively.
