PURPOSE:To shorten remarkably the period of a driving pulse, and to form a latent image at a high speed by providing an electrode which is in local contact with a magnetized film through a conductive heating ribbon, heating locally the magnetized film by generated heat, and forming a latent image in the magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:When an electrode 34 is brought to reciprocating movement together with a carriage, and also a drum 30 is driven to rotate continuously, the electrode 34 is scanned on a magnetized film 32, and by following this scan, a driving current pulse is supplied one after another to the prescribed electrode 34 from a driving circuit 38. The driving current pulse is flowed to an earth through a resistance layer 44 which the electrode 34 contacts, a conductor layer 42, and a conductive roller 46 from the electrode 34. Also, in the part which is in contact with the electrode 34 of the resistance layer 44, Joule heat is generated and a conductive heating ribbon 40 itself is heated locally, and also its heat is transferred to the magnetized film 32 and the magnetized film 32 is heated locally, and this heated part is inverted and magnetized in the vertical direction in accordance with a magnetic field of a permanent magnet 50. Such a latent image being a collection of many inverted and magnetized parts is formed on the magnetic film 32.
