PURPOSE:To improve the heat generating characteristic of a thermal head, by forming a heat generating resistor layer on the exposed polished surface of a glass layer which was obtained by obliquely polishing a substrate having a conductor layer formed thereto. CONSTITUTION:First and second electrode layers 2, 4 are formed by a method wherein a conductive paste is printed to form a thick film which is, in turn, baked and etched. In order to protect these electrode layers 2, 4, a protective glass layer 5 is printed on each of the electrode layers 5, 6 except for lead take-out parts and baked. The end part of a glazed substrate 10 is cut and a conductor layer 7 is formed at said end part. The end surface having the conductor layer 7 formed thereto is again obliquely polished so as to expose a glass layer 11 and the first electrode layer 2 and a heat generating resistor layer 6 is formed on the polished surface 12 by the sputtering or vapor deposition of a resistance material. When the heat generating resistor layer 6 is formed on the polished surface 12 obliquely polished as mentioned above, the contact area with recording paper is further reduced and, therefore, printing efficiency can be enhanced. |
