PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled ester with a high ultimate synthesis ratio at a low cost, by dehydrating a mixture of a substituted or unsubstituted alcohol having one or more hydroxyl groups with a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid in the presence of an organic solvent and reacting the dehydrated mixture with a microbial alkaline lipase. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of 1mol alcohol, e.g. alcohol having one hydroxyl group such as 1-30C aliphatic primary alcohol, 2-20C aliphatic secondary alcohol or 4-10C alicyclic alcohol (which may have a substituent group, e.g. amino, halogen, phenyl, pyridyl, etc.) or a substituted or unsubstituted alcohol having >=2 hydroxyl groups such as >=2C aliphatic polyhydric alcohol except propylene glycol, (poly)glycerol and sugar (alcohol) or 4-10C alicyclic polyhydric alcohol with (B) 0.01-100mol 2-22C (un)saturated fatty acid which may have a substituent group, e.g. OH, COOH or C6H5, etc., is dehydrated in the presence of 1-99wt%, based on the reaction system, organic solvent without adding water to give <=0.1% moisture content. A microbial alkaline lipase in an amount of 10-100,000 units, based on 1g component (B) is then reacted therewith to give the titled ester.
