PURPOSE:To save electric power and to prevent a head unit from overheating by providing an electric circuit means which turns on plural light sources for illumination that a readout part has selectively and turning on only necessary light sources when the readout part reads. CONSTITUTION:The readout part is arranged on the upstream side of a conveyance path and the readout part detects the head end and tail ends of recording paper, the rest, a time elapse state regarding the conveyance of the recording paper, the state of the recording paper, the shape of the recording paper, etc. When an original is read, all the light sources are turned on and when the recording paper in the recording operation is detected and when characters, symbols, etc., printed on the recording paper, only specific light sources are turned on according to the necessities. For example, when the width of the recording paper is detected, LEDs in the center block (e) of the LED group and a block (k) at a position which does not correspond to A4, but corresponds to B4 are turned on. When symbols, characters, etc., on the recording paper are read, only LEDs in the block at the left end side of the recording paper.
