PURPOSE:To improve combustibility in an intake device which includes both an intake passage provided with a shutter valve for a high engine loading, and an intake passage provided with a timing valve for a low engine loading by controlling a gas loading volume by means of a throttle valve provided to a collecting section of the intake passage when an engine runs under high loads. CONSTITUTION:An intake passage 10 is branched at the downstream of a surge tank 13 into a intake passage 10a for a high engine loading, and an intake passage 10b for a low engine loading which is formed for generating swirls. And shutter valve 17 and a timing valve 18 are provided to the passage 10a and 10b respectively. In addition, a throttle valve 14 which is common to each of cylinders, is provided to the upstream side of a collecting section of the intake passage 10. In this case, a controller 21 changes the timing of the timing valve 18 when an engine runs under a low loading so as to advance the closing time of it from the closing time of an intake port 7 for controlling a gas loading volume. On the other hand, the opening of the throttle valve 14 is changed so as to control the gas loading volume when the engine runs under a high loading.
