PURPOSE:To use a general memory as the memory of a computer and to simplify a program and to improve a processing speed by coding bit information stored in the general memory through hardware. CONSTITUTION:A storage device with a bit data converting circuit is capable of two kinds of writing and reading in modes 1 and 2. When data is read written and read in mode 1, data A corresponding to one address viewed from a CPU and data A corresponding to one address of the general memory are written in equal relation and outputted (read out) to the data bus of the CPU without changing in format. In mode 2, bit data at the same position viewed from the head of each block is written in equal relation with each bit of data corresponding to one address viewed from the CPU. In reading operation, bit data of each memory block are read out, edited, and outputted to the bus.
