PURPOSE:To efficiently rearrange a roller in the course of executing a rolling work by covering the rolling of a rolling mill which has been stopped, by other rolling mill, as soon as one of multistage rolling mills is stopped, and rearranging the roller of the stopped rolling mill during this time. CONSTITUTION:When a material 6 is rolled by multistage rolling mills A-E, for instance, when replacing a roller of the rolling mill B, a pass schedule is changed by a control command 7 as necessary, and a roller rearranging command 9 of the rolling mill B is inputted to a controller 8. As a result, a stop command is outputted to a rolling reduction adjusting device 1b, a rolling roller 5b is separated from the material 6 and a driving motor 3b is stopped. At the same time, a command is generated to rolling reduction adjusting devices 1a, 1c, 1d and 1e of other rolling mills a, C, D and E, and driving motors 3a, 3c, 3d and 3e in order that rolling of the rolling mill B can be covered, by a rolling roller gap and a revolving speed of the rolling mills A, C, D and E are controlled so as to keep the same plate thickness as before. In this state, the roller of the rolling mill B is rearranged, and when the rearrangement of the roller has been completed, the rolling mill B is reset to rolling from the next pass.
