A method of operating tools controlled by pressure medium, in particular hydraulically driven shears, is shown. Here, the pressure medium is fed with a pulsating pressure, at least in the working state of the tool, the pulse rate corresponding to the resonance frequency of the tool. In this way, it is possible to considerably increase the productive capacity of the tool without having to work with increased pressures. <IMAGE>
