In order to design a trunk piston, intended, in particular, for internal combustion engines, with an extremely low compression height, use is made of a gudgeon pin split into a first piece (6) and a second piece (7). The splitting of the gudgeon pin allows it to be mounted in hub bores (3) which lie radially right behind a piston ring groove (4) without providing in the piston skirt a bore in alignment with the hub bores (3). For this purpose, the gudgeon pin is split in such a way that the first piece (6) lies directly in a bearing (5) of the piston head, in the space between the hubs (2). The second piece (7) of the gudgeon pin, the longitudinal ends of which project beyond the first piece (6), is introduced after the first piece (6). The two pieces of the gudgeon pin are then screwed firmly to the connecting rod (9). The forces acting on the piston in the direction of the top dead centre position of the piston are taken up by the second piece (7), while the forces acting in the direction of the bottom dead centre position of the piston are transmitted via the bearing (5) to the first piece (6). <IMAGE>
