The invention is based on apparatuses for fastening containers, especially luggage containers, on the roof racks of motor vehicles, the containers having floors and side walls. In order to be able to release these containers, especially case-like containers, rapidly from a secure fastening, and then to be able to fasten them once again in a rapid and secure fashion, according to the invention, a metal tape is provided which extends from one edge of the container to the opposite edge, rests against the outside of the container floor and the side walls, encloses the upper edge of the container with its ends and has fastening means in the region of the lower edges of the container, which means can correspond with hook-like fastening elements which are connected to a transverse support of the roof rack.
