Process for producing and operating a landfill site, in particular for special waste, in which uncased boreholes of large diameter are sunk to low-lying, impermeable soil layers in which the waste is separated according to various waste grades and is deposited such that it can be reclaimed at any time. The process develops landfill waste sites in a simple manner from the ground surface, even at depths of over 100 m, the landfill site having only a small surface requirement and it being possible to subject it to constant monitoring. <IMAGE>
