PURPOSE:To prevent gas from mixing with oil in an oil chamber by discharging working oil in the oil chamber of a gas spring to a reservoir when the device is not operated after an ignition switch is turned off to stop a car. CONSTITUTION:A gas spring 22 is connected to a branch line 19 between a flow control valve 20 and a variable damping force valve 21 in a hydraulic control unit 7, and the gas spring 22 is divided into a gas chamber 22c and an oil chamber 22d by a diaphragm 22b. Working oil in the oil chamber 22d is discharged to a reservoir 11 when the stop of a car is detected by a detecting means after an ignition switch is turned off. This causes the diaphragm 22b to be stuck on the wall surface of a casing 22a so as to make its contact area with working oil smaller. As a result, this restrains gas in the gas chamber 22c from penetrating the diaphragm 22b and mixing with oil in the oil chamber 22d.
