In a press, cut-off waste is discharged downwards into a collecting container via waste chutes (6, 7). The waste chutes (6, 7) are situated in the workshop floor in the region between the press supports (1) and in the sliding table (2). The waste chutes (6, 7) are to be covered and/or sealed while the sliding table (2) is moved out, in order to avoid sources of danger in the workshop floor and the falling of cut-off waste onto the workshop floor. The waste chutes (6, 7) are sealed by means of an adjustment means (10), which is articulated to a covering cap (8) which seals the waste chute (6) in the workshop floor. The waste chute (7) in the sliding table is sealed by means of a sealing cap (12) which moves concomitantly with the covering cap (8). <IMAGE>
