A charging installation for the automatic supply of solid fuels to a heat exchanger/heating boiler or furnace with filling opening is proposed, above which a driven fuel-storage wheel is arranged, which has radial partitions for the purpose of forming segment compartments. The radial segment compartments are for their part in each case subdivided by at least one fold-away intermediate partition so that radially internal and radially external storage compartments are created, into which individually relatively large solid fuel pieces such as billet wood or the like can be introduced into the charging installation, which do not jam on charging of the heating boiler or furnace and can be introduced into the combustion chamber individually.
