[Also in Division F1] An engine throttle valve which is disposed in a rectangular conduit 10 is formed by a pair of obturators 11, 12 each pivoted at the upstream end and sealed by resilient strip 39, 40; the inner surfaces of the obturators are curved to assist fluid flow, and in the fully-open positions the outer faces of the obturators lie against the respective conduit walls 13, 14. The two plates are driven in synchronism by a rack connected to both pivot pins, or as shown each of the latter comprise the centre of a gear segment 23, 24 which intermesh. In other forms the pins have arms which are interconnected by a spring, the obturators being rotated by cams through gears or a rack. The obturators may -be connected by linkage and operated by a cam via a lever. Main and pilot carburetter jets 37, 38 are provided on the centre-line through the conduit. |
