Waste gas stream is scrubbed with an aqs. solution containing dissolved Na2SO3. SO2 is absorbed and NaHSO3 is formed. The solution is divided into 2 portions. A stream of Na2CO3 is added to the 1st, converting at least a portion of the bisulphite into sulphite. This portion is recycled for further scrubbing. A stream of Na2CO3 is added to the 2nd portion and all the bisulphite is converted to sulphite, which is then reacted with a C-containing reducing medium at elevated temp to reduce it to Na2S and form a flue gas containing CO2. The Na2S is dissolved in water and contacted with a CO2-containing gas stream, forming H2S gas and aqs. Na2CO3. The H2S is processed to an S-containing product and the Na2CO3 is recycled to the streams added to the scrubbing solutions.
|
