To adapt the speed of packagings of a predetermined number of liquid containers (bottles or cans) in a cardboard wrapping to the increased filling speeds of the filling stations of beverage manufacturers (for example, breweries), in a corresponding apparatus partially bonded packaging blanks are removed from a magazine and erected in an erection station, front and rear driving battens and a controlled counterslide then move in up to the packaging, and subsequently, in a filling station, in each case two or more liquid containers supplied by means of conveyor bands are pushed into the packaging by means of successive entry stars, up against the counterslides serving as bearing support, and are held by guide rails. After the desired number of liquid containers has been filled, a close packing of the rows of liquid containers is brought about by means of erection slides. In a subsequent closing station, first rear and thereafter front flaps of the packaging are folded around the liquid containers, and finally the front tabs of the packaging containers are bonded and the filled and closed packages are conveyed away. The packaging blanks are provided, on their upper covering faces or on the lower bottom faces, with folding grooves for forming a widening strip.
