PURPOSE:To obtain a recording head of high dot density capable of printing at high speed without generating clogging of ink, by a method wherein a counter electrode is disposed on the side opposite to the side having signal applied electrodes of the recording head with spaced away from each other and a recording signal voltage is selectively applied therebetween. CONSTITUTION:In a multi-element type electrostatic ink jet printer using a semiconductive liquid ink, the pulse voltage applied between a counter electrode 5 and a one selected among recording electrodes 4a-4n generates the inrush of charges from the recording electrode to ink columns 8a formed in small openings 3a-3n. The ink columns 8a are charged by the injected charges, simultaneously being so formed as to completely fill the small openings 3 due to Coulomb's force acting against the counter electrode 5. After the time is further elasped, the ink columns 8a are raised from the small openings 3 to be in projection form, and thereafter the ink starts flying. |
