The invention relates to a seat which can be, by transformation, used as a chair or as an armchair, consisting of pairs of elements linked to each other by an articulation and characterised in that: - one of the said elements comprises a a surface A forming a chair base whose one end is articulated at 9-9 on the other element and whose other end 3 forms an armchair rest and b a chair-armchair rest 4, the said surface A and the said rest 4 being rigidly linked to one another; - the other of the said elements comprises c a surface B forming a chair backrest and on its other face an armchair backrest; the said surface forming armchair backrest extending beyond the said articulation by a surface C forming an armchair base, this surface forming a suitable angle with the said armchair backrest base and d a chair rest 8 accommodated at the end of the said armchair base surface; - the two elements being linked by an articulation 9-9 located at one end of the surface forming a chair base and at a low end of the surface forming a chair backrest, and comprising two systems for locking 10-11 and 13 the movements about the articulation of the said elements one with respect to the other. <IMAGE>
