A catalytic composite comprising a platinum group component, a tin component, a rhenium component, and a Friedel-Crafts metal halide component combined with a refractory inorganic oxide is characterised in that it shows selectivity and stability in isomerisation reactions involving isomerisable hydrocarbons, e.g. xylene, without undue tendency towards cracking them. Pref. Pt. group component, ca 0.01-1.0 wt.% is pref. Pt. Pa or a compd. of either. Metal halide component, ca 1.0-100 wt.%, is pref, anhyd. AlCl3. Rhenium and tin are present on an elemental basis in amts. ca. 0.01-1.0 wt. % and ca. 0.01-5.0 wt. % respectively. |
