The fabrication of gas diffusion electrodes of electrochemical appliances (for example electrochemical gas sensors, air batteries, fuel cells, electrolysis appliances etc.) at present involves a laborious fabrication technology. It is possible, by coating porous films with one or more appropriate catalyst layers and optionally by patterning this layer, to fabricate a large-area gas diffusion electrode. In order to increase the surface, a deposition process is used in which the electrode catalyst layer penetrates the capillaries of a film and thus forms a continuous catalyst layer which does contain capillaries and on which the corresponding electrochemical reaction proceeds rapidly. |
