By means of the hinge, the cover plate of a cooker, a worktop-mounted hotplate or the like can be tilted up from a horizontal position into a vertical position, the cover plate being held there. Through the hinge, a brake friction force is opposed to the tilting-up movement. According to the invention, a U-shaped bearing element made of spring material is used as the pivot bearing in this case, in which bearing element a pivot element firmly connected to the cover plate is pivotably mounted and guided. The bearing element has catch springs which, in the tilted-up position, engage with a bow, concentric with the pivot axis, of the pivot element and hold the cover plate in this position. <IMAGE>
