A plastic float (10) of high-density thermoplastic material comprises two half-shelves (11, 12) of very low wall thickness. After welding, an inner-wall annular bead and a corresponding outer-wall annular bead (42) of the same width are formed. The inner-wall annular bead forms the guide for a standpipe and ensures easy-action displacement without the risk of clamping. <IMAGE>
