The present invention relates to the use of benzimidazoles of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl group, R2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, trifluoromethyl or cycloalkyl group, a hydroxyl or mercapto group which is optionally substituted by an alkyl group, or a phenylalkyl or phenyl group which can be mono-, di- or trisubstituted by a halogen atom, an alkyl group, a hydroxyl, mercapto, alkylsulphinyl, alkylsulphonyl, alkoxy or alkylmercapto group, or a dimethylaminophenyl group, R3 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and R4 and R5 together with the carbon atom located between them are a carbonyl group or R4 is a chlorine atom, a methylamino, morpholino or 4-methylpiperazino group and R5 together with R3 is another bond, one of the radicals A or B is a hydrogen atom and the other of the radicals A or B is likewise a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group or A together with B is another bond, their tautomers if R1 is a hydrogen atom, their optically active antipodes if A or B is an alkyl group, and their physiologically tolerated salts for the treatment and prophylaxis of migraine.
