PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a tool by putting the tooth surface of a gear to be machined in surface contact with a curvature consisting of the involute curve on a tooth body of tool and the curve on the crest of tooth, when meshed grinding is carried out, and thereby eliminating overload on the curvature. CONSTITUTION:A gear cutting tool 1 carries out machining while each of its teeth 1a meshed with teeth 4a of a gear to be machined 4. That is, the meshing point of a tooth 1a of the tool 1 with a tooth 4a of the gear 4 varies from time to time, thereby the tooth surface 4c of the gear 4 is ground into involute form with a number of abrasive grains at the tooth body 1e of the tool tooth 1a. Here eventual contact of the tooth crest 1c of the tool and the curvature 1b as boundary between it and the body 1e with the tooth surface 4c of the gear 4 will be made in surface contact, so that the load applied to the curvature 1b will be less to prevent the curvature part from separation of abrasive grains 3 as well as defoliation of the plating layer 2. A bent form at the crest and each corner of tooth ensures that eventual projection of the crest in the radial direction does not cause contact with the gear, which will provide uniform sense of sharp cutting with abrasive grains. |
