The invention relates to direct-heating boilers for producing steam and/or hot water. According to the invention, the boiler comprises a metallic boiler body 1 and at least one electrode 2 capable of causing a rise in temperature of the water by electric conduction of the latter. The boiler body 1 comprises on its inner wall a coating 3 made from an electrically insulating material which is inert to the generation of lime deposit. The electrode 2 consists of a material which is neutral to the electrolysis of a sodium chloride solution. Application to the manufacture of boilers having immersed electrodes or having water jets in the industrial or domestic field. <IMAGE>
