The automatic locking mechanism is for use on a roller shutter of interarticulating horizontal panels. It has a bolt (7) fixed to the top edge of the top panel (3) and secures the blind in the fully deployed position. The bolt terminates in a short cranked return (8) which engages a groove (9) in an axle (10) when the blind has fully descended. The axle is secured against rotation and may be located coaxially inside the cylinder (11) of the roller-shutter. The bolt (7) may comprise a lever which is pinned to the top of the shutter, and may traverse an opening (12) in the wall of the cylinder (11) to latch tangentially onto the axle. The cylinder may include a spring (17) which ensures the blockage of the bolt-head (8) by the walls of the cylinder.
