PURPOSE:To achieve stable ignition action in a wide revolution range, by providing the igniter of an engine with two exciter coils having different number of windings, and by executing switching of these coils using a switching element connected to a timing control circuit. CONSTITUTION:First and second exciter coils 1, 2 having different numbers of windings are connected in series. The (+) side of the first coil 1 having a larger number of windings is connected to the (+) side of a charge/discharge capacitor 5 via thyrister 3, whereas the (-) side of the second coil 2 having smaller number of windings is connected to the (-) side of the capacitor 5 via a primary coil 7 of a ignition coil 6, as well as to the earth. Furthermore, a thyrister 13 for discharging the capacitor 5 is connected to a timing control circuit 12 which executes timing control stepwise when the engine speed reaches a prescribed value. Finally, a switching circuit 26 containing the thyrister 3 selects the coil 1 during low-revolution operation and selects the coil 2 during high-revolution operation. |
