Process for supplying the material carriers, provided with receiving spindles, in the bleaching and dyeing of yarns in bleaching or dyeing appliances, yarn bobbins wound in a winding station or treated being fed to the bleaching or dyeing appliance in accordance with the particular bleaching or dyeing batch, being pushed onto the receiving spindles and being subjected, on these, to the bleaching or dyeing treatment. The yarn bobbins are fed to the bleaching or dyeing appliances on the pallets which have vertical lift-out pallet rods, onto which the yarn bobbins are placed individually in the winding station and combined to form a yarn-bobbin unit matched to the associated receiving spindles. In front of the material carriers, the pallet rods equipped with yarn bobbins are lifted out of the pallets and connected to the upper end of the receiving spindles. The yarn-bobbin units are pushed onto the associated receiving spindles from the individual pallet rods. An apparatus for carrying out the process is also described. <IMAGE>
