The process comprises (a) prepn. of the fabric by de-sizing, bleaching, dyeing, singeing, caustic treatment and/or mercerising; (b) passing through rollers (6) provided with an abrasive covering which produce rubbed and counter-rubbed effects of high or low intensity on one or both faces, with random orientation of some fibrillar elements. During the previous phase, the material is santorised by resin application by calendering or impregnation, followed by softening and drying.
