New 7-(acyl)amino-3-azido-3-cephem-4-carboxylate derivs. (I) [R=H, R1CO, R2(CH2)nCO, R3CH2CH, R2ZCH2CO, R4CH(Q)CO or R5C(N= NOR6)CO; R1=alkyl opt. substd. by halo or CN; R2=Ph. opt. monosubstd. by halo, NH2, OH, alkyl, alkox, etc; or Ph. substd. by A1, A2 and A3; A1-A3=H, halo, OH, alkyl or alkoxy; n=0 or 1; R3=thienyl, furyl or 1H-1- tetrazolyl, or a gp. of formula (1)-(3):b=opt. protected amino, alkyl or phenyl; z=O or S; R4=an R2 gp., thienyl, furyl or 1,4- cyclohexadienyl; Q=OH, COOH, formyloxy, SO3H; R5=R2 or R3; R6=H or alkyl; R1=H or carboxy protecting gp. were prepd. by reacting 3- cephem cpd. with alkali metal azide.
