The disclosure relates to the use of at least one histamine H4 receptor antagonist in the preparation of a medicament for the inhibition of post-operative adhesion formation in a body between tissue surfaces in a body cavity having been subjected to a surgical procedure, wherein the medicament is formulated for systemic administration and wherein the at least one histamine H4 receptor antagonist is selected from the group consisting of thieno- and furo-pyrimidines; pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrates, solvates and mixtures of any of said H4 receptor antagonists.
