The invention relates to a system enabling the operational capacity of microcomputers to be increased by increasing the number and the variety of the peripheral devices which it may serve. The invention resides in the fact that only the functional electronic circuits are placed on the serial input-output extension card 1, use is made of a series of as many connection modules 4 as channels which it is desired to use, each module containing the line-interface circuits and connectors, and each module is connected individually via cables 3 to one of the connectors of the main card 1. <IMAGE>
