The invention relates to a numerically controlled lathe with two workpiece spindles (15, 16), the centres of rotation of which extend parallel to one another and the workpiece-clamping points of which are arranged offset in the spindle-axis direction. The machining possibilities on a machine of this type are to be improved in that the cross slides (6, 7, 11, 12) assigned to each workpiece spindle (15, 16) are movable on their own bed guides (2, 3, 4, 5) extending in the spindle-axis direction, the bed guides (2, 3, 4, 5) lying in a common plane and the workpiece spindles (15, 16) being at the same vertical distance from this plane. <IMAGE>
