Under the subtropical conditions of a cooling tower, the bacteria or the like grow very well. In order to prevent this, according to the invention it is proposed that the flue gas from the fossil combustion region is fed to the cooling tower exhaust gases in defined preset desired doses as total crude gas or interactively metered in SO2 and/or NOx loads.
