The method of carrying out light-dependent production process is described, in particular a method for the mass production of photosynthesising organisms. The organism cultures are illuminated by light sources and the method invented is characterised in that the light source or the light sources is or are dipped into the organism reaction vessel. For this purpose, apparatuses are specified for carrying out the method in which the immersed light sources are designed as rod-like or else as spherical light sources. However, apparatuses can alternatively be used in which a combination of these two types of light source are used. In particular, a light source is proposed which comprises an optical fibre bundle, the individual optical fibres of which are fanned out in the interior of the reaction vessel and are prepared in such a manner in this fanned out region that the said optical fibres radiate light in a radial direction.
