PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of surface active agents, etc., in colorless state, with higher polymerization degree, by the addition reaction of glycerol or polyglycerol with glycidol using a secific carboxylic acid as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is prepared by reacting glycerol or poly-glycerol with glycidol in the presence of a carboxylic acid of formula (R is residue of carboxylic acid having n-carboxyl groups; n is 1-3; the ratio of carboxylic acid in the total molecular weight is >=40wt%) as a catalyst. The carboxylic acid used as a catalyst is e.g. formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, isobutyric acid, etc., and its amount is 0.01-10wt%, preferably 0.1-5wt% based on glycerol or polyglycerol. The reaction temperature is 50- 230 deg.C, preferably 70-150 deg.C. |
