PURPOSE:To speed up the retrieval of data by finding out the order of registered code data in a data record to be registered and registering new data record including the order information in the order of registration. CONSTITUTION:An index table, picture data, a program, and a temporary order calculating conversion table for index data are respectively stored in memory areas 10, 20, 30, 40 and an index record and index data corresponding to one track of an optical disk are respectively stored in a track buffer area 11 and sorted index table areas 12A-12C. Index data additionally registered in the optical disk are stored in new index table areas 13A-13C in respective items, and at the registration of the data, the index data are searched by the table 12A or the like, a temporary order in the registered indexes is found out and the temporary orders of respective items are recorded in the optical disk in pairs with the respective index data.
