The invention specifies a process for producing a heat-insulated pipe for channelling crude oil. The pipe comprises an inner steel pipe and a heat-insulating sheath which encloses said steel pipe, exhibits a cellular structure, is composed of individual insulation-pipe pieces and forms a supporting body which is designed as cavities separated off from one another, is divided in the longitudinal direction of the pipe and the cavities of which are filled with a material of low thermal conductivity. The process is distinguished in that the ends of the insulation-pipe pieces are welded together and the cavity which is newly formed by the welded-on insulation-pipe piece is then filled with the material of low thermal conductivity, preferably the material is expanded therein.
