MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To miniaturize in size and lighten in weight a device by forming directly a tracking control signal and a recording travel speed decision signal from a pilot signal reproduced from a track on a magnetic tape and using a part of them in combination. CONSTITUTION:A local pilot signal P1 is inputted to a frequency converter 7 from an input terminal 3, and similarly, local pilot signals P2-P4 are supplied respectively to frequency converters 8-10 from each of input terminals 4-6. These local pilot signals P1-P4 are varied corresponding to the frequency of the pilot signal reproduced from a scanning track. Each pair of the frequency converter 7 and a BPF 11, a frequency converter 8 and a BPF 12, a frequency converter 9 and a BPF 13, and a frequency converter and a BPF 14 forms respectively a pilot detector that detects individually the pilot signal from each reproducing signal. The tracking control signal and the recording travel speed decision signal can be formed from the reproducing signal, thereby using them as the part of a tracking control device or a recording travel speed decision device.
