Process for the production of a preform for an optical waveguide, and an arrangement for carrying out the process

The invention relates to an inexpensive production of preforms for (quartz) optical waveguides (optical fibres), in which a vertical arrangement is used to which only gaseous reaction components, for example SiCl4 and steam, are fed. A carrier gas and a guide gas can be admixed in any desired ratio; gas streams containing 100 % of reaction gas are possible. It is possible simultaneously to coat a plurality of carrier elements, for example graphite rods, with doped or undoped glass black. The deposition is supported by application of various electrical fields.
