PURPOSE:To maintain traveling performance, and recording and regenerating characteristics always good, and to enhance durability by forming a magnetic layer on the surface of a nonmagnetic base, and a moisture-insulating layer on the reverse face to restrain the dimensional change of the magnetic recording medium against the humidity change of the outer circumstance. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer 2 is formed on the surface of a nonmagnetic base 1 made of an aromatic polyamide or the like, and an anchor layer 3 made of a polyurethane resin is formed on the reverse side of the base 1, and further, the layer 3 is coated with a soln. of a resin small in moisture permeability and hygroscopicity, such as vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymer, and dried to form a moisture-insulating layer 4, thus preventing curling caused by the dimensional change of the base 1 due to humidity change, and permitting traveling performance and the contact with a magnetic head to be maintained always favorable. Moreover, a lubricant layer 5 is formed on this layer 4 to prevent rise of friction coefft. due to the layer 4. As a result, the magnetic recording medium, etc., having the thin magnetic metal layer 2 for high density recording is prevented from change of characteristics against the conditions of the outer circumstance.
