Appliance for mass transfer by means of hollow filaments whose terminal regions are potted in one potting compound block each which is bonded to a casing shell in a fluid-tight manner, in which the casing shell has at least one orifice, a distributor body is arranged in the vicinity of the appliance's longitudinal axis for supplying or discharging the fluid flowing round the hollow filaments, the hollow filaments are microporous and are arranged so as to be evenly distributed over the entire cross-section of the potting compound blocks and an annular free space is present between the outer hollow filaments and the casing shell, into which space at least one orifice opens. The casing shell and the distributor body and the optionally arranged end caps are preferably designed in such a way that they can be manufactured by an injection moulding process. The appliance is particularly suitable as a blood oxygenator, with the option of it being assembled into a unit, via an adaptor (spacer, spacing ring) with a heat exchanger for regulating the temperature of the blood. Alternatively, the appliance is quite generally suitable for admixing gas to, or removing gas from, liquids, for transmembrane distillation, gas a filter, as an oil separator, as a blood plasma separator or as a haemoconcentrator. <IMAGE>
