The vessel (1), e.g. a bottle, can be sealed airtight. It incorporates a section of wall (7) locally weakened in relation to the remaining walls (4,5). Thus if after sealing a pressure or vacuum builds up inside the vessel the wall section distorts elastically, outwards or inwards. The walls can be of relatively thin plastics, allowing filling with relatively warm material. The distorting section can be in a vertical wall, joining onto it by a thinner elastic hinging edge.
