New agents for combatting snoring contain (A) a surface-active substance, (B) a preservative and/or a substance having a bactericidal or fungicidal action on the mucous membranes, and (C) a substance which renders the mucous membranes supple, in (D) physiological saline, opt. together with (E) further additives tolerated by the mucous membranes. Preferred surface active agents are sorbitan polyoxyethylene esters, esp. polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate. Preferred preservatives are ethanol, p-hydroxybenzoic acid esters, 2-phenoxyethanol, benzoic acid and its salts, and sorbic acid and its esters. Pref. mucous membrane disinfectants are benzalkonium chloride and chlorobutanol. Preferred substances rendering the mucous membranes supple are glycerol and panthenol. Suitable further additives are vitamin A, vitamin E, hydrolases, lipases and proteases. The surface active substance is pref. present in a concn. of 0.1-0.5 wt.%. Agents for intranasal application to prevent or reduce snoring. The agents act by maintaining the nose and throat membranes in a moist, smooth state and removing irregularities and dryness caused by environmental influences.
