PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance, weatherability and corrosion resistance of a magnetic recording medium, more particularly a hard disk type magnetic recording medium by adopting an Ni-Cr-Mo-Fe-W alloy as the inorg. protective layer of a magnetic recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The inorg. protective layer 5 of the magnetic recording medium successively superposed with a metallic chromium layer 2, a magnetic layer 3, the inorg. protective layer 4 and a solid lubricating 5 on the surface of a nonmagnetic substrate 1 consists of the Ni-Cr-Mo-Fe-W alloy. The component compsn. thereof consists preferably of 10-20wt% Cr, 10-20wt% Mo, 3-8wt% Fe, 2-8wt% W and the balance Ni and has the high corrosion resistance and wear resistance. The magnetic metallic layer to be used for the thin magnetic metallic film layer is preferably of a Co-Ni alloy of which the component ratio is adequately Co:Ni=1:1-9:1. Carbon is preferably used for the solid lubricating layer. Characteristics are improved by such constitution. |
